FEATURES: One of the best Southland seasonal Haunts, Spooky House used to be located located at a permanent facility in the parking lot near a mall that allowed for greater detailing of sets: there were lots of elaborate scenes, some indoors, some outdoors, and plenty of ghouls, makeup and effects. For 2005 & 2006, Spooky House moved to a temporary location, inside an abandoned movie theatre. Many of the old props and effects survived the transition, but there were some big changes: less elaborate decor and no more outdoor sections to the mazes, which generally seemed somewhat shorter that they used to be. For 2007, they have moved into a new, permanent location, which should see a return to the impressive architecture and detailed sets for which the haunt is justly famous.
MAZES & ATTRACTIONS: Unfortunately, Spooky House is trimming back to two attractions for 2007. The wonderful "Turbidite Manor" is no longer house here (it has moved out of Los Angeles), and there is no Club 13 dance room.
DRAWBACKS: It's popular, so it's crowded. You will have to wait in line, especially later in the season. VIP tickets help (somewhat). In the past, the mazes have frequently seemed understaffed (with numerous hidey holes and blind corners untenanted by the ghosts they were so obviously designed to house), but that no longer seems to be the case in the new location. Also, when things get busy, the staff has a tendancy to rush the guests through the mazes without allowing time for the cast to reset after the previous group, with the result that you can miss some of the scares and mechanical effects. RELATED HAUNTS: Spooky House has branched put in recent years, supervising two other Halloween attractions: Old Town Haunt and Seaside Haunt.
